Patticake, patticake, baker’s girl…

I am currently watching Dirty Dancing while waiting for my second batch of cakes to cook. I love this film. I am such a girl. Fortunately for any flies on the wall, I have not had enough to drink to think that I can perform any of the dances (after one too many, I am Baby and no-one puts me in the corner, oh no).

Moving swiftly on. As I mentioned yesterday, I decided to do some baking today. I kept it relatively simple in the end, having had grand plans half way through the day to make cookies, muffins and cakes. Instead, I’ve just made two types of fairy cake and one batch of muffins.

This is what I’ve learned along the way:

1) There is a reason why bakers don’t wear black. I am decidedly…dusty.

2) I love some of Nigella’s recipes, but goodness me you need a lot of ingredients for a lot of them.

3) Butter and sugar creamed together are dangerously delicious.

4) I always add the egg too fast to the creamed butter and sugar and nearly split the mix. Patience, precious, patience…

5) I have store cupboard full of ingredients, but the one thing that I’m absolutely convinced is there never is. Today it was chocolate chips. I know I had some. Where have they gone? Have I become one of those sleep-eaters?

6) Baking is genuinely therapeutic. Cliché I know, but you can whisk and beat away your frustrations and the end result is delicious comfort food. Win win.

7) I really really wish I could dance…
